HOME DELIVERY TRENDS
2023 SEES BUSINESS BOOST
The economic climate remains murky, but ecommerce has seen volumes increase with online shopping outpacing GDP growth over the same period.
This year’s survey found a 6% year-on-year rise in average activity across all sectors surveyed—while not a huge leap, particular sectors saw considerable jumps in activity, including apparel/footwear (15%), pet supplies (14%), and cosmetics (11%) all witnessing sizable momentum following a more subdued 2022.

HOME DELIVERY: A BALANCING ACT
Are the rising costs of delivery set to lead to a lower level of service for demanding customers, or are firms doubling down and investing to improve the experience?
Today, consumers still expect shipping from the warehouse floor to door in roughly 72 hours. However, AlixPartners’ executive survey suggests that shippers are still often falling short—nearly half (47%) are not able to commit to the three-day click-to-porch shipping time.
But as the demands around online delivery services grow, businesses are not retreating from the challenge. Some are revisiting their delivery services to stay competitive. Reducing the cost of last-mile delivery is now a key focus for 83% of executives, while others are mulling customized services, from in-store pickup to white-glove delivery.
